Carl J. Epplin

	Carl J. Epplin, age 88, of Pinckneyville, died Tuesday, October 3, 2000 at 7:50 p.m. in St. Anns Healthcare Center, Chester.
	Carl was born in rural Pinckneyville on July 2, 1912, the son of Joseph S. and Emma Katherine (Endres) Epplin.  He was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, the Knights of Columbus #2921, Pinckneyville, served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a farmer.  He married Marie J. Baudison on July 23, 1946 and she preceded him in death on April 23, 1968.  He then married Ida Pocnitske of Steeleville, in March of 1972 and she survives.
	Other survivors include two daughters:  Alice Chase, and her husband, Ed, of Fairview Heights, Margaret Ann Epplin, and her husband, Ronald Mowers, of Ames, Iowa, two step-sons:  Gerald Johnston, and his wife, Lois of Leslie, Mo., Willard Johnston, and his wife, Judy of OFallon, Mo., four brothers:  Clement Epplin of Pinckneyville, Clarence Epplin, and his wife, Celeste, of Florissant, Mo., Joe L. Epplin, and his wife, Mildred, of Pinckneyville and Albert Epplin of Pinckneyville, five grandchildren:  Peter and nIcholas Chase, Joseph, Jonathan and Matthew Mowers, six step-grandchildren,. fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife:  Marie, brother:  Edward, sister:  Agnes Bruns and grandchild:  Gregory Johnston.
	Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 7 at 10 a.m. in the St. Bruno Catholic Church with Fr. John Venegoni officiating.  Interment was in the St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery.
	Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Friday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.  A prayer service was held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
	Memorials may be made to the St. Bruno School Endowment Fund or St. Anns Healthcare Center.
